Today we sat down with Jessica Colon, who works tremendously well under pressure, leading our underwriting team to serve borrowers with the right loans to fit their unique needs.
What is your typical day at Stronghill Capital?
As Stronghill’s Senior Commercial Real Estate Underwriter, I collaborate closely with lenders and buyers to summarize financing opportunities into comprehensive loan offering packages. Day-to-day I am in charge of the approval of loans, quality control and the overseeing of the closing department.
I enjoy working with a team of creative thinkers who take on a “best idea wins” mentality to bring closing solutions to the clients we serve.
What is a valuable lesson you have learned during your career?
Over my 20 years of lending experience, I have embraced learning from my mistakes. I find it best to acknowledge your errors, learn from them and move on. This allows you to continuously grow your knowledge and move forward with a set of strategies that will provide benefit later.
While not specific to my work, through the years I have learned that I am not a morning person. I love Cuban coffee and need it every morning to take on the pressures of the day with a smile on my face.
When you are away from work, how do you spend your time?
If I have my way, you’ll always find me on the beach! I love to take my dogs on long walks and, while not your most traditional beach destinations, I do have Iceland, Thailand, and Alaska on my travel bucket list.
I cheer for the Miami Heat (Let’s Go Heat!) and enjoy being courtside for games when I have the opportunity.
